A very important aspect when choosing a bike is what kind of terrain you like to ride on.
Mountain bikes or in other words MTB bikes have different parameters in different parts of the bike, e.g. front fork length (travel), geometry, seating position etc.
Enduro - designed for harder, but not the most demanding downhills or bike parks, the center of gravity is shifted more above the rear wheel, has wider handlebars, 150-180mm strokes
Trail - the most versatile type, which can also handle sportive riding on heavier terrain, 130-150mm travel
XC (cross-country) - racing category suitable for cycling marathons, built for speed with less weight, strokes from 100 to 130 mm
Sport
Dirt - designed for tricks in the air, fooling around in skate and bike parks. Withstands hard impacts, 100-130mm strokes, mostly 26" wheel
Cross - bike with narrower tires, not equipped with fenders, lights, rack /that's why it has the nickname naked/. It is designed for sportier riding.
Downhill - designed exclusively for downhill riding. High camber /180-200mm/ allows fast downhill riding even in very difficult conditions. They are full suspension, but also rigid. They offer a real adrenaline rush
Touring
Road - characterized by bent handlebars /barrels/, thin tires with the possibility to inflate to high pressure due to minimal resistance on the road
Gravel - very similar to a road bike but with shorter and higher geometry and stronger rims
City - urban type of bike, has mudguards, chain guard or lighting
BMX - bike designed for skate or bike parks, wheels are 20 and 24 inches with 1 gear.
